Not just your cupboards. Your mind too.
You know that drawer, the one that refuses to close properly because it’s full of “might be useful someday” things? We’ve all got one. And funny enough, our heads can look exactly the same. Thoughts, worries, old projects, unfinished ideas, all stuffed in there together, taking up mental space and slowing us down.
Here’s the magic bit: you don’t need to overhaul your entire life to feel lighter. Start small. Clear a corner of your desk. Delete five old emails. Finally bin that pen that hasn’t worked since 2019.
Because when you declutter something physical, you send your brain a message: I’m taking charge.
That tiny action creates movement. And movement; ANY movement, builds momentum. Suddenly you find yourself making decisions more easily, feeling more energised, a bit more spacious inside.
Science backs it up too: clutter increases stress and mental fatigue, while even small acts of tidying or organising give a little hit of dopamine, your motivation chemical.
So, just do it. Pick one small thing. Clear it.
You don’t need a “Decluttering Challenge” or matching storage boxes. You just need five minutes and a willingness to start.
One way I kickstart myself into motivation is I'll set a timer for 10minutes. If I want to stop, when it goes off, I can. Guess what? I rarely want to by that point.
You’ll be surprised how quickly space on your shelf turns into space in your head, without doing anything revolutionary or that conscious.
And who knows? That little burst of energy might just ripple through everything else you do today.
So, where will you start?
